Groceryshop spotlight: Kyle Chu of PopSockets shares data-driven retail wins with Crisp

With real-time, granular reporting across key accounts, PopSockets hits 97% in-stock rates and creates stickier partnerships with data-powered collaboration.

PopSockets has been creating smart and stylish phone accessories for nearly a decade, and for over three years, Crisp has been the retail data partner fueling their omnichannel growth. Senior Manager of BI and Financial Planning, Kyle Chu, joined Crisp at Groceryshop in October to share PopSockets’ data transformation journey and the results unlocked by centralized reporting across online and in-store channels. Moderated by Crisp VP of Sales, Heather Martin, the conversation revealed how clean, SKU- and store-level visibility powers faster, smarter decisions and drives retailer collaboration for measurable outcomes.

Here are key takeaways; but be sure to tune into the 10-minute session for a quick masterclass in data-driven retail execution.

Build vs. buy: retail data pipelines

PopSockets leverages Crisp to clean, harmonize, and deliver their daily data from Target, Best Buy, and Amazon into their Snowflake instance. When the search for a data platform began, Kyle explains the team lacked visibility into pressing issues – like the impact of under-glass displays and persistent stockouts.

Aggregating and uncovering these insights internally proved too cumbersome for a two-person data team. When it came time to choose a retail data platform, speed-to-insight was critical. With Crisp, the team saw usable insights quickly, and achieved full reporting against their needs.

“We had to find a partner to enable us to get a level of granularity down to the SKU, store, and daily-level.”

Results that stick

Armed with daily SKU–store visibility, PopSockets lifted in‑stock performance to 95% in top stores – and 96–97% across tier‑one locations – while deepening collaboration with retail partners. The granularity helps keep assortments optimized across regions, and provides answers around ad‑hoc problems, such as incorrect measurements that led to overstocked facings. With these insights, the team can make expertly informed recommendations to partners, with results that reinforce their credibility.

Getting a grip on AI

What’s most exciting on the AI frontier, Kyle shares, is activating faster, more revealing insights across the immense data sets that PopSockets collects – especially from Amazon where they sell thousands of SKUs. Crisp provides the ideal foundation for structured, AI-ready retail data, which can be combined in Snowflake with ERP, marketing, and other analytics.

As Kyle notes, PopSockets “plays at the intersection of style and solutions.” An AI-driven data future can help PopSockets to design on-trend products more quickly to meet consumer demand. While at the same, optimizing a sustainable, more profitable supply chain from end-to-end.
